What is the ideal body weight?

Having a normal body is a must for everyone, therefore, being underweight or overweight can in turn be harmful to outlive therefore in this post we are going to learn how to know if our weight is normal or not.

According to the Center For Disease Control And Prevention(CDC)  American women aged 20 years and above weigh an average of CHF 204.50 (lbs), according to Height-wise, the average adult female is 5 feet 4 inches, and her waist measures 38.1 inches. However, the calculations are average therefore not a measure of health.

One of the commonly used indicators of well being is a person's BMI, which stands for Body Mass Index.BMI is a useful measure of overweight and obesity. It is calculated from your height and weight. BMI is an estimate of body fat and a good gauge of your risk for diseases that can occur with more body fat. The higher your BMI, the higher your risk for certain diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems, and certain cancers.

However much BMI(Body Mass Index) is the most commonly used method, it has the following limitations
  • It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build.
  • It may underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle. 
NOTE; Ideal weight varies from sex to sex that is normal body weight for a female of a given age  weight can be unhealthy weight for male of the same age keeping other factors constant
